Padikkadavan - The Film Which Made Rajini Bigger Commercial Star

 1985 is an unforgettable year for Rajinikanth for completing 10 years in the industry with 100

films landmark too. And made his presence felt till Bollywood also became pan Indian hero

from the South after Kamal Haasan. 1985 began and ended stunningly for Rajini with Naan Sigappu

Manithan and Padikkadavan.




Padikkadavan was a huge celebration for fans and a classic victory for Rajini after the back to

back flops of Un Kannil Neer Vazhindal and Sri Raghavendra.

Padikkadavan was remake of Amitabh's Kuddhar. Director Rajasekar should be appreciated for

having the remake version screenplay sharp and crisp for Tamil audience. 3 scenes & 1 song

were excluded from Kuddhar to have an apt run time compared to 2 hrs 53 mins run time of

Kuddhar.

Director Rajasekar remakes of Padikkadavan Mappillai and Dharmadorai with Rajini were all

well made on par with originals keeping all the entertainment and emotions intact.

The song which really made Padikkadavan a classic, Oorai Therinchikitten wasn't there in

Kuddhar and stabilized Vairamuthu position as a lyricist in Tamil cinema along with memorable

Mudhal Mariyathai & Sindhu Bhairavi same year.




Janagaraj's comedy as Kabali was so memorable and was unstoppable in the '80s as a comedian.

Before the classic Padayappa, Ramya Krishnan acted in Padikkadavan as Rajini's sister-in-law.

Due to Rajini's busy schedule & juggling between Tamil & Hindi films, the climax chase scene was

shot in Mumbai.

During the release, it was a rainy season but still, the audience thronged to theatres making the film

blockbuster.




Padikkadavan completed 2nd hat trick Deepavali success for Rajini. (83-Thanga Magan, 84-

Nallavanukku Nallavan and 85- Padikkadavan)

After Billa and Thanga Magan, Padikkadavan was 3rd 200 days film for Rajini.

Sri Raghavendra - Superstar's Devotional Landmark

1985 was the landmark year for Rajini as he completed 100 films in 10 years from his debut in 1975. Rajini took a bold decision to do a religious movie for his 100th film. Rajini, being Kannada legendary hero Rajkumar fan, had seen his Kannada film Mantralaya Mahime where Rajkumar portrayed Sri Raghavendra. Panakkaran - The Golden Decade of 90's Rajini!

 Rajini began the 80's decade with blockbuster Billa and ended with blockbuster Mappillai. Same the way in 90's decade Panakkaran was Rajini's first release becoming a blockbuster and ending with gigantic blockbuster Padayappa!
